National Merit Scholarship Finalists Includes St. Francis Students

Students from our local Catholic school who made the finalist stage of the prestigious scholarship are listed below.

Of the 16,000 semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program about 15,000 of those students advanced to the finalist level. The names of the Mountin View student is listed below.

More than half of the finalists will go on to compete for a Merit Scholar title and a portion of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) worth more than $32 million. Beginning in March the program will notify winners of the three types of scholarships: National Merit $2500 Scholarships; corporate-sponsored scholarships; and college-sponsored scholarships.

In April, May, and July, NMSC will release names of Merit Scholar designees to news media for public announcement.

Also in March 1,300 Special Scholarship recipients will be announced. Those students, who are not among the finalists, will be winners of corporate-sponsored scholarships. The sponsors themselves provide the information to news media.

About 1.5 million juniors at more than 22,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2013 competition. Honors for the award are based on “exceptional academic ability”, and “potential for success in rigorous college studies” the organization said in a statement.
