Pedestrian Killed Crossing Phyllis Avenue Monday

The unidentified woman died from her injuries at Stanford Hospital.

Updated at 11:30 a.m. with ages for the victim and driver.

An adult female died as a result of injuries suffered after being struck by a car Monday evening, law enforcement reported Tuesday.

The 59-year-old woman, who has not yet been identified, may have been crossing at the 1200 block of Phyllis Avenue near Hans Avenue around 6:30 p.m., when a blue 2000 Nissan Maxima traveling northbound hit her.

The victim was transported to Stanford Hospital where she later died, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

The female driver, 70, remained at the scene. The MVPD does not believe alcohol or speed to be factors in this collision.

Both parties are residents of Mountain View.

The MVPD seeks to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the Mountain View Police Department. Investigators can be reached at 650-903-6344.

Last week, a 17-year-old boy was struck by a car and seriously injured on Shoreline Boulevard. Last October a pedestrian was struck by a car on Mariposa and California Streets. Another pedestrian was killed in April 2012 as he jogged along Wright Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard.

In recent months, the Mountain View Police Department has been working to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and has conducted several decoy operations targeting vehicles that do not yield to pedestrians at intersections and in crosswalks.  California law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
