Police Descend on Mountain View High Due to Student Prank

A Mountain View High student has been arrested after a prank raised security concerns at the local school Thursday morning, police officials report.

The student 18-year-old Christopher Egerton was found in class and admitted it was a prank, according to department spokesman Sgt. Sean Thompson. He was arrested for causing a disturbance on school grounds under penal code section 415.5 PC.

"No weapons were involved," Thompson said.

The Mountain View Police Department began to receive phone calls around 8:17 a.m. of a male subject dressed in camouflage and wearing a gas mask walking into the school, Thompson said.

"All MVPD patrol units, school resource officers, traffic units and detectives responded immediately to the school," Thompson said in a statement issued to the press. Los Altos Police Department also responded.

Law enforcement quickly set up a perimeter around the school and units searched for the subject within the adjacent neighborhoods.

Due to quick thinking, patrol officers remembered a similar incident months ago and based on that information deduced who the likely subject could be.

They identified the student and the School Resource Officers contacted Egerton.

"This all took place while class was in session so no students were affected and their safety was  not in jeopardy at any time," Thompson said.
