Man Dies Near Diamond Valley Lake, ID'd By Riverside County Coroner's Bureau

A 54-year-old Los Angeles County man died after failing to navigate this dangerous curve.

HEMET, CA — A Pico Rivera man died after crashing east of Diamond Valley Lake Thursday. The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau released his identity after notifying his next of kin.

Gregory Lee Jaques, 54, was found inside his vehicle that crashed and tumbled through brush and boulders, onto a hillside, roughly 180 yards south of State Street and Cactus Valley Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Jonathan Torres told Patch.

Shortly before 2 p.m., witnesses reported a traffic collision in the area near State Street and Cactus Valley Road in the unincorporated community, two miles south of Hemet.

"Upon arriving, it was determined to be a fatal traffic crash involving a 2013 Dodge Challenger, driven by Jaqques," Torres said.

The wrecked car was found on a hillside, roughly 180 yards south of the end of State Street at Cactus Valley Road in Hemet, according to the coroner's report.

"Initial investigation shows the vehicle was traveling southbound on State Street when it failed to negotiate the curve onto Cactus Valley," Torres said. The Challenger travelled off-road through brush and boulders, overturning and coming to rest on Eastern Municipal Water District property."

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.

California Highway Patrol officers were handling the investigation, and no other information was immediately available.
