Man Fatally Shot By RivCo Deputies During Domestic Dispute: Sheriff

A man died Saturday by deputy gunfire during a domestic dispute in Jurupa Valley, deputies said.

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — A man died Saturday by deputy gunfire during an alleged domestic dispute in Jurupa Valley.

Authorities responded at 3:48 a.m. Saturday to the 3300 block of Avalon Street, where they said they saw a man with a knife threaten a female within a group of family members, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

After deputies safely evacuated the victims from the household, the Riverside County Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau along with the Crisis Negotiation Team were requested to assist the scene after the suspect refused to exit the residence.

According to Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, the enforcement bureau entered the residence, but the suspect was unwilling to comply with them.

It was unclear what happened next, but the department reported that the suspect was shot by at least one deputy while inside the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The suspect was later identified as 39-year-old Ernesto Rodriguez, according to the Riverside County coroner's office. His city of residence was not provided.

The identities of the deputy or deputies involved in the shooting were not disclosed to the public.
