Murrieta Mesa High Graduate Killed In Shooting
Devaughn Perkins died Saturday in a shooting in Menifee.

MENIFEE, CA -- An 18-year-old man who graduated from Murrieta Mesa High School was killed Saturday in a shooting. Police said the incident was reported at 12:10 a.m. in the area of Cleary Street and Michener Street in Menifee.
The victim, identified as Devaughn Perkins of Menifee was a graduate from Murrieta Mesa High School and just completed his first year as a business major at Cal State Dominguez Hills, where he maintained a 3.4 grade-point average and stayed out of trouble, according to family members and friends talking to reporters.
Responding officers said they performed life saving measures but the victim died from injuries sustained from the shooting.

The suspect is still outstanding and all investigative leads are currently being followed up on, officials said.

A public candlelight vigil for the teenage victim was planned for 7 p.m. Sunday at The View Church, 26701 McCall Blvd. in Sun City.
Perkin's family has set up a GoFundMe pageto help collect donations to cover funeral expenses.
