17-Year Sentence Issued To Man For Gang-Related Mobile Park Shooting In Napa

A man was sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for a gang-related shooting in Napa last August, prosecutors say.

NAPA, CA -- A man was sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for a gang-related shooting in Napa last August, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

According to the Napa County District Attorney's Office, Marcos Rios Leon, 21, pleaded no contest on Jan. 25 to assault with a firearm, personally inflicting great bodily injury during the commission of a felony,
and committing the acts to benefit a criminal street gang.

At 10:25 p.m. on Aug. 18, Napa police officers responded to the Rexford Mobile Estates mobile home park at 1350 Pueblo Ave. in Napa on a report of shots fired.

At the scene, officers learned that the victim was at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper right forearm.

Evidence and witness accounts revealed that Leon was the shooter. He had threatened residents earlier that night, witnesses said, and asked about their gang affiliations. When residents failed to engage with him, he returned and fired several shots, injuring the victim, prosecutors said.

As part of a negotiated plea, Leon was also ordered to pay the victim more than $62,000 in restitution for medical bills and lost wages due to the inflicted injury, prosecutors said.
