After Destroying 481 Structures, Atlas Fire Now 100% Contained

The fire burned more than 51,000 acres after burning for 19 days.

NAPA COUNTY, CA -- The Atlas Fire that killed four people and burned more than 51,000 acres is now 100 percent contained, it was announced Friday night.

The fire began late Oct. 8 off of Atlas Peak Road, south of Lake Berryessa, destroyed 481 structures, according to Cal Fire officials.

Earlier this month, Napa County sheriff's officials identified four people who were found dead near Atlas Peak Road. They were identified as George Chaney, 89; Edward Stone, 79; Sara Rippey, 99; and Charles Rippey, 100.

The Atlas Fire is one of many that burned northern California earlier this month. Other fires in the North Bay like the Tubbs, Pocket and Nuns fires continue to burn, although, Cal Fire crews are making progress. They expect to have those fires fully contained by Tuesday.

Those wildfires have collectively burned 111,000 acres in Napa and Sonoma counties, according to Cal Fire.

Cal Fire officials said 5,274 firefighters were at the fires.
