Bay Area Air District Announces New Logo, Name
The logo's flowing lines represent the nine counties it serves and show its commitment to improving air quality across the entire Bay Area.

BAY AREA, CA — The Bay Area Air District announced its new name and logo this week that symbolize a new direction through recent leadership changes. To better connect with the public, the agency name is streamlined from Bay Area Air Quality Management District to Bay Area Air District.
The modernized brand helps it stay connected and effective in its mission, the agency said. The new identity also honors the Bay Area’s diversity, environmental justice initiatives and commitment to clean air for all, the Air District said.
“We’re excited to launch our new logo with a fresh, modern look that reflects the contemporary, innovative direction of our work as we continue to partner with the most impacted communities in the Bay Area while also doing our part to protect the global climate,” Executive Officer Philip Fine said. “This rebrand isn’t just a visual update — it’s a renewed promise to lead with purpose and align with the aspirations of the communities we serve.”

New Logo
The new logo represents both continuity and progress, the Air District said, embodying the agency's core values while embracing a cleaner, more modern design.

Blue Heritage: The blue tones are a nod to our legacy, reflecting the clear skies and clean air we strive to protect. Blue has long been part of our visual identity, symbolizing trust, reliability, and a focus on environmental stewardship.
Nine Stripes for Nine Counties: The flowing lines in the logo represent the nine counties we serve, showcasing our commitment to improving air quality across the entire Bay Area. These stripes also signify the movement of air and the interconnectedness of our communities.
Evolution of Our Logo: While the design is new, it’s a natural evolution from our previous logo, maintaining continuity while embracing the future. The updated look reflects the changing landscape of air quality management and our proactive approach to future challenges.
Circle of Justice and Impact: The circular shape symbolizes both environmental justice and our global impact. It reflects our ongoing commitment to equity, ensuring that all communities have access to clean air, and highlights our role in addressing global environmental issues.
Blue Skies, Clean Air: The sweeping blue lines mirror the natural flow of clean air and the vast skies we aim to protect. They represent the harmony between the environment and the people of the Bay Area, working together for a future of clean air for all.

'Simpler Name, Clearer Mission'

While the longer name remains for formal use, the agency chose a simpler, more memorable option as shown above. The clean, contemporary font is easier to read.
"The Air District’s rebrand is not just a visual refresh — it’s a reflection of its enduring dedication to clean air and environmental justice for every community in the Bay Area we serve," Air District Board Chair Davina Hurt said. "Guided by the Air District’s mission and core values, the agency is excited to embrace the future with a renewed focus on collaboration, equity and innovation."
