California's 2017 Recreational Halibut Season Begins, Will Include 3 Holiday Weekends
The recreational Pacific halibut season began Monday, and this year includes 3 holiday weekends, the Calif. Dept. of Fish & Wildlife says.

BAY AREA, CA -- The recreational Pacific halibut season began on Monday, and this year it will include three holiday weekends, California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials have said.
The halibut season is split into four open periods -- May 1 to June 15, July 1 to July 15, Aug. 1 to Aug. 15 and Sept. 1 to Oct. 31.
The 2017 Pacific halibut quota for California is 34,580 pounds, roughly 5,000 pounds more than last year's quota, according to CDFW officials.

Because of the increased quota, National Marine Fisheries Service officials extended this year's season to include Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day weekends.
The season's dates, however, are not guaranteed and could be trimmed if anglers bring in the overall quota prior to season's end.
