NAPA VALLEY, CA — The Napa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to endorse Proposition 50 on the November 4 ballot.

Napa County voters will see the item in the upcoming special election, in which the Prop. 50 is the only item on the ballot, according to the office of Supervisor Belia Ramos.

"Here in Napa County, we know the importance of making sure every person — from our vineyard workers to our small business owners, families, and seniors — is counted and heard," she said.

Napa has lost at least $35 million in disaster relief and preparedness funding from FEMA for wildfire mitigation projects and public safety because of political partisanship, according to Napa officials.

Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed the ballot measure after the Trump administration pressured Texas officials to gerrymander the state's congressional districts in order to flip a handful of Democratic seats to Republican in the upcoming 2026 midterm election, according to Cal Matters.

Newsom needs voter approval because Prop. 50 would suspend maps drawn by California's redistricting commission until 2030.

The 4-0 vote followed a rally on Monday called to support Prop. 50 and inform voters that the measure will be on their ballots.

Board Vice Chair Supervisor Amber Manfree said “California didn’t choose this fight, but we can make a difference nationally.”

Supervisor Liz Alessio said the measure will “ensure that the voice of Napa County residents reaches that House of Representatives.”
