NAPA, CA — The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died when he was struck by a vehicle on state Highway 29 in Napa Saturday as Erik Keith Woodward, 25, of Napa. Woodward was walking on the shoulder of northbound Highway 29 around 9 p.m. near the Napa Premium Outlets shopping center just south of First Street when he was struck by a 2001 GMC, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Woodward was walking on the right shoulder but crossed the highway and was struck in the No. 1 fast lane, CHP Officer Vincent Pompliano said.
The 51-year-old Concord man driving the SUV said he was unable to veer out of the way of Woodward to avoid a collision. The driver showed no signs of impairment, Pompliano said.
