NAPA COUNTY, CA — Napa County is celebrating the centennial of the Calistoga Library with activities and events throughout the year. The Calistoga Library, one of Napa County Library’s four branches, was built in 1924, and joined the Napa City-County Library system in 1979.

“The Calistoga Library has served as an enriching resource for the community over the past 100 years so we are excited to celebrate this major milestone for the library,” said Napa County Director of Library Services Anthony Halstead. “We encourage the public to join in on all the festivities.”

The year-long celebration will kick off with a new library card design based on an early photo of the library that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Calistoga Library. Whether to open an account or replace an existing library card, the commemoration card will be made available to all members of the public.

Along with programs throughout the year focusing on Calistoga and life in the early 20th century, the library will be hosting two events to celebrate the beginning of construction in the spring of 1924 and its completion in the fall of that same year.

What does life look like in Calistoga in 2024? In April, residents will have the opportunity to bring what they would like to see placed inside a 50-year time capsule.

In the fall, the public will be invited to celebrate the library’s 100th anniversary with food, music, period games, and crafts, alongside a dedication of the time capsule which will be sealed and put in place.

“I’ve heard so many wonderful stories and memories of the Calistoga Library from residents and it speaks to the important role the library plays in the community,” said Napa County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Anne Cottrell, whose district encompasses the library. “I can’t wait for the community to come out to help celebrate this momentous milestone.”

Updates on the centennial celebration will be shared throughout the year. To learn more about the celebrations and library programming, visit the Calistoga Library web page, Napa County Library Facebook page, and Napa County Library online.
