Napa County Crash Sends 3 Kids, 2 Adults To Hospital

The solo-vehicle collision happened Thursday on state Highway 221.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Five occupants of a van suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to hospitals after a solo vehicle crash on state Highway 221 this afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

There were two adults and three children between 2 and 7 years old in the older model van that hit a street sign, guardrail and eucalyptus tree stump around noon south of Anderson Road in unincorporated Napa County, CHP Officer Marc Renspurger said.

There were no car seats in the vehicle, Renspurger said.

The 7-year-old child was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, the 4-year-old went to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland and the 2-year-old was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa but also
may be taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland, Renspurger said.

Investigators do not know if the driver was impaired or distracted, and a dealer license plate was on the vehicle, Renspurger said.
