The statewide roundup highlights how California restaurants, including Napa’s, earned spots on major award lists and guides, from Michelin to Wine Spectator and OpenTable.
   

2. New Affordable Care Act enrollment down by 35% in North Bay (pressdemocrat.com) — Thousands of Napa County residents who rely on Covered California plans could see their monthly premiums jump about 85%, or roughly $171, if enhanced federal ACA subsidies expire at year’s end. New ACA enrollment in the North Bay is down 35%, and Congress is weighing competing Democratic and Republican proposals that will determine how hard Napa households get hit.
   

3. Bipartisan bill aims to ease Trump tariff on wine and other specialty crop farmers (localnewsmatters.org) — Napa Valley winegrowers are being squeezed by foreign tariffs that have cut export demand and raised production costs, and a new bipartisan bill aims to get them direct federal relief. The proposed Specialty Crop & Wine Producer Tariff Relief Act would compensate growers for documented losses and fund USDA purchases of surplus crops for nutrition programs, potentially easing pressure on Napa’s wine-centered economy.
   

4. Vacaville City Council conducts business license study session (pressdemocrat.com) — Napa gets a key mention as Vacaville leaders study raising business license taxes after finding the city trails Napa’s business tax revenue by about $4.2 million a year. Consultants outlined options that could significantly boost Vacaville’s revenue, with councilmembers favoring a tiered flat-rate system that would still need voter approval.
   

5. Bay Area gained jobs in September, but California suffered job losses (mercurynews.com) — Napa County’s job numbers held steady in September, even as neighboring North Bay counties saw small gains and Solano lost positions. Overall, the Bay Area added just 500 jobs while California shed 4,500, marking the state’s fourth straight month of employment losses and underscoring a sluggish labor market heading into winter.
