📰 News we're reading

• President Torence Powell to leave Napa Valley College for Los Rios district (pressdemocrat.com) — Napa Valley College’s superintendent-president Torence Powell will leave after the 2025-26 academic year to become chancellor of the Los Rios Community College District, creating a major leadership vacancy for the local campus. Powell’s tenure included opening the River Trail Village student housing, stabilizing finances after past turmoil, and pushing long-term, equity-focused planning. Trustees will soon need to outline how they’ll search for his successor.

• Napa County supervisors to vote on program allowing vineyard tastings under new state law (mercurynews.com) — Napa County supervisors are set to vote Tuesday on a pilot program that would govern new vineyard tasting experiences under California’s AB 720, potentially reshaping how visitors experience local wineries. The rules would cap event days, attendance, traffic, and require fire marshal permits while officials gather data to craft permanent regulations that balance tourism, safety, and rural road protections.

• Next-generation Clipper Cards seek to make rides smoother, cheaper for travelers (pleasantonweekly.com) — Napa County transit riders are part of a major upgrade to the Clipper system, which now supports instant online reloads, easier family account management, and broader transfer discounts. Over 20 Bay Area agencies, including those serving Napa, will also let you tap in directly with a bank card, potentially cutting costs for multi-agency commutes and simplifying daily travel.
