Police Charge A Napa Woman Who Hit And Killed A 70-Year-Old Man In A Crosswalk

Police say fatigue and speed led to the 2024 death of a man pushing a shopping cart across the street.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — A woman faces charges in fatal collision that killed a 70-year-old man crossing the street in Napa.

The Napa County District Attorney's Office charged Eva Zuniga, 24, with negligent driving in the death of Charles Corrigan.

The charges include driving at an unsafe speed for the conditions, failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, according to police.

The crash happened at about 5:30 am on Sept. 10, 2024 at the intersection of Third Street and Soscol Avenue. Corrigan was pushing a shopping cart and had stepped off the curb into a crosswalk on a yellow light that quickly turned red. Zuniga was fatigued and driving at about 40 mph, twice the speed limit, according to police.

Zuniga was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.

Investigators cited speed and fatigue as the primary causes of the crash.

Zuniga is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 8:30 a.m.
