St. Helena Man Dies In Solo-Vehicle Crash

The fatal crash happened Saturday on Spring Mountain Road, officials with CHP and the Napa County Sheriff's Office say.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified a driver who died in a solo-vehicle crash near St. Helena Saturday afternoon as Donald MacDonald, 84, of St. Helena. MacDonald was driving a 2016 Subaru east on Spring Mountain Road west of Birdhill Road in unincorporated Napa County around 3:45 p.m. when he went off the right shoulder and collided with a guardrail, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Subaru came to rest in the westbound lane with its front end against a dirt embankment, the CHP said.

MacDonald was taken to St. Helena Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m.

The crash closed Spring Mountain Road for two and one-half hours, the CHP said.
