Stronger Earthquake Shakes The Bay Area After Morning Temblors

​BREAKING: An earthquake with a preliminary 4.2 magnitude was reported just before 1:30 p.m. — Did YOU feel it?

THE GEYSERS, CA— A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck northern Sonoma County around 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

It was followed by two more quakes — a 2.5-magnitude and 3.00-magnitude — in the same area near The Geysers, the USGS said.

The cluster of afternoon shakers was preceded by a 3.1-magnitude quake at 8:42 a.m. Friday near The Geysers. As Patch previously reported, at least a dozen temblors with a magnitude of at least 1.0 were recorded around the time of the morning temblor.

The strongest quake of the trio hit at 1:28 p.m. and was less than a mile from The Geysers, 3 miles from Cobb and 23 miles northeast of Santa Rosa. The second struck at 1:32 p.m; it was 2.5 magnitude and just over a mile from The Geysers, 8 miles from Middletown and 24 miles north of Santa Rosa. The third quake was 3.0 and was recorded at 2:23 p.m. Friday a little under 2 miles from The Geysers and 25 miles from Santa Rosa.

The USGS received at least 250 responses from people who felt some shaking from the 4.2 quake. It was felt strongly in Healdsburg (54 responses), Geyserville (21 responses) and Calistoga (17 responses). Responses showed it was experienced across the North Bay and the Bay Area, including Napa, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, Windsor, Fairfield, Benicia, Yountville, Angwin, Vallejo and San Rafael, as well as San Francisco, El Sobrante and Los Altos.

There were no immediate reports of any damages or injuries.
