UPDATE: Rides, Goats, Pigs, Arcade Thrill Napa Town & County Fair Patrons
First day attendance is somewhat light but spirited.
UPDATE: Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, 9 p.m.
Napa Town & Country Fair opened Wednesday with games, rides, livestock shows and booths galore -- showing lots of promise for the next four days ahead.
"I've been here every year since I was age 7," said Katie O'Connor, 23, of Napa. "I just like to be here."
O'Connor, one of a fairly light number of first-day attendees, was relaxing in the rides section with her 2 1/2-month-old son Kaden and friend Kenny Lee from Nebraska.
Meanwhile, in the Livestock Building, Ashley Maynard of American Canyon 4-H Club took first prize in the Boer Goat Show for the 9-11 age group.
Baby Jean Alcantar, 10, of Los Amigos 4-H Club in Napa competed in the same group with her goat Moody and also won a ribbon.
Alcantar's aunt, Stephanie McLeran of Napa, said Baby Jean was tired from getting ready for the show.
"When it's fair time, they're here from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.," McLeran said. "I did this when I was a kid -- it's good for them."
