NAPA VALLEY, CA — Police following up on a report said they found a BMW in American Canyon with opened mail addressed to multiple recipients, none of which belonged to the man in the car.

American Canyon police found the BMW Sunday near mailboxes at the Crawford Way post office.

The car was occupied by Dario Flores-Perez, 43, of Los Angeles, on probation for identity theft, according to a news release on social media. Inside, officers found a homemade “fishing” device made with duct tape and rat-trap glue that could be used to pull mail from mailboxes, along with opened envelopes, IDs, and checks that didn't belong to Flores-Perez, as well as methamphetamine.
