Woman-Owned Napa Flooring Company Donates Toys For Local Distribution

NAPA, CA — Floor Coverings International of Napa, a woman-owned business, is excited to donate to Toys for Tots this holiday season.

Now through Dec. 14, for every complimentary in-home session booked using code "Toys for Tots," Floor Coverings International of Napa will donate one new, unwrapped toy to the local Toys for Tots chapter for distribution this holiday season, according to business owner Liz Edwards.

Edwards, a local resident, celebrated Floor Coverings International of Napa’s grand opening Oct. 5 to coincide with Women-Owned Business Day, a national initiative that recognizes and supports women entrepreneurs. Floor Coverings International is a mobile flooring company that brings the showroom to the customer's door. It was founded in 1988 and with over 200 locations across the United States and Canada it is the sixth-largest flooring company in North America, according to a news release.

Edwards is excited to expand Floor Coverings International into Napa and surrounding areas. She and her team help homeowners find the perfect flooring solution from a wide array of hardwoods, LVPs, laminates and carpets.

Floor Coverings International's mobile showroom allows clients to view more than 3,000 options from the comfort of their own home so they can see which type of flooring looks best with their existing furniture, lighting and paint colors.

Edwards said she has always had a passion for transforming spaces and making people’s lives easier and better. She's worked in various industries, including cosmetics, flooring, and wine and spirits, and gained valuable experience in marketing, sales, operations and customer service.

She has lived in different cities across the country but fell in love with Napa Valley when she first visited in 2005. She finally moved to Napa permanently with her family in 2019 and has been loving it ever since.

Why Toys for Tots?

"This holiday season, I wanted to find a charity for Floor Coverings International to support that the entire community could get behind, and the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is exactly that —the group pairs new toys with families and children in the local community who need them. Last year the Napa chapter distributed over 10,000 toys! I'm happy to support this initiative and look forward to choosing the perfect toys to bring smiles to many faces!"

I see you have lived in several cities across the country. Besides Napa, which was your favorite and why?

"I've lived everywhere from New York City to Louisville to Washington DC...and so many more! Each one holds a special place in my heart and was perfect at that moment for where I was in life. I loved living in Ithaca and the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York — I went to Cornell for undergrad, and returned later for business school. It reminds me of Napa in a lot of ways! It's a small, tight-knit community, where the members of the town have such pride for where they live and care about the betterment of their community."

What is your favorite type of flooring and why?

"I'm amazed at the technology that goes into prefinished floors. Where I grew up, it was typical for homes to have hardwood that you'd sand and stain when it was time for new floors. But now the technology of finishing wood flooring before ever coming to your home is so impressive — they're able to be made much more durable, and the installation process is so much smoother and faster now."

What type of flooring do you suggest for a busy family?

"If you like the look of wood, I'd recommend one of our waterproof laminates. They look pretty darn close to actual wood, and they're virtually indestructible. If carpet is more your speed, Floor Coverings International has a wide selection of hydrophobic carpets —meaning the liquid will actually pool up above the surface versus soaking into the fibers. I love doing demos of that because it really sells itself!"

What do you enjoy doing when not working?

"My husband and I have a toddler — he recently learned to walk so I definitely have my hands full with him. You'll likely see him running all over Napa soon enough!"
