Brass Knuckles, Rifle Found In Man's Pickup Truck In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A traffic stop in Newport Beach yielded a "major seizure of illegal weapons" for police officers, authorities said Wednesday.

The incident was reported just after 1:59 a.m. on Aug. 20, when an officer on patrol in the area of San Joaquin Hills Road and Jamboree Road noticed a Red Ford pickup driving with plates that had been expired for 12 years.

During an investigation of the car, police say they seized the following:

  • A loaded .357 Magnum revolver.
  • A KelTec AR-15 rifle.
  • Multiple high-capacity magazines, all illegally possessed and unregistered.

"What began as a simple expired registration violation turned into a major seizure of illegal weapons," police said in a statement released Tuesday, Nov. 25. "[The case] highlighted how proactive policing and attention to detail helps keep our community said."

The sole man behind the wheel of the truck was arrested on multiple felony weapons charges, police said.
