Coastal Lightning Strikes Prompts Newport Beach Closures
Beaches from the Newport Pier to Corona del Mar were temporarily closed as a safety precaution, city officials said.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Stormy weather in the Southland has prompted Newport Beach officials to temporarily close the city's beaches after reports of lightning strikes near the coastline Wednesday morning.
Beaches from the Newport Pier to Corona del Mar will be closed as a safety precaution until the "storm cell moves through" the area, Newport Beach officials said.
"We are currently experiencing a weather situation with lightning strikes off the near coast," the city said on Twitter.
