Costa Mesa Police Searching For Fatal Hit-And-Run Driver

A 64-year-old woman was killed while crossing a street Wednesday night in Costa Mesa, police said.

COSTA MESA, CA — Police are looking for the driver of a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 64-year-old woman in Costa Mesa Wednesday evening.

Witnesses described the car in the collision as a possibly silver-colored Toyota sedan with damage to its front end and windshield, the Costa Mesa Police Department said.

The collision happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday, on Fairview Road south of Baker Street.

The woman, identified as Linda Lefler, was attempting to cross the street and was struck by a car that fled from the area, Costa Mesa police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Lefler was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
