Cyclist 'Critically' Injured In PCH Crash; Lane Closures Issued In Newport Beach

A bicyclist was injured and traffic was snarled when a crash shut down Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach Tuesday morning.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A bicyclist was injured and traffic was snarled when a crash shut down Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported at around 8:35 a.m. Tuesday on the northbound side of the road, near Fernleaf Avenue, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

The bicyclist was in critical condition when taken to the hospital, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, police said.

The crash shut down all northbound lanes on the street, and authorities issued a SigAlert at about 8:50 a.m.

A full northbound closure, beginning at Goldenrod Avenue, was expected to last a couple of hours.
