NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Newport Beach City Council is expected to vote on a resolution Tuesday that, if it passes, would ban overnight parking on a stretch of Old Newport Boulevard.

The resolution is part of the council's consent calendar, which means it's considered routine and can be passed with several other resolutions in one motion.

Newport Beach officials said they drafted the motion after noticing multiple cars parked "long-term" along Old Newport Boulevard between 15th Street and Hospital Road, according to a City Council staff report.

"There have been a number of litter, pollution and safety issues associated with the long-term parking," the staff report said.

If the resolution passes, it will ban overnight parking on that stretch of Old Newport Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Companies located between 15th Street and Hospital Road will not have their parking impacted by the overnight ban, the staff report said. Most of the companies on the street are medical offices that close at 5 p.m.

"Staff believes the prohibition of overnight parking should eliminate the potential for continuing problems," the report said.
