High-Speed 101 Freeway Chase Ends In Ventura Boulevard Spinout

WOODLAND HILLS, CA — A man and a woman were taken into custody Friday in the Woodland Hills area following a pursuit that began in Ventura County and hit speeds of nearly 100 mph.

The pursuit began early Friday afternoon in the Camarillo area, with the suspects wanted in connection with a possible catalytic converter theft, according to various media reports.

The suspects — a male driver and female passenger -- fled in a dark- colored Toyota Prius south on the Ventura (101) Freeway, hitting near-triple- digit speeds before exiting at De Soto Avenue in the Woodland Hills area.

The driver sped dangerously along local streets, on occasion driving on the wrong side of the street and into oncoming traffic. Pursuing California Highway Patrol officers attempted at least two PIT maneuvers in an effort to spin the Prius and bring it to a halt, but the driver kept going.

The chase finally came to a stop when the Prius spun out at Ventura Boulevard and De Soto, and CHP officers quickly took positions in front of the car.

The driver quickly surrendered, followed a short time later by the female passenger.

There were no reports of any injuries.
