Inspiring a New Orchestra!

A near death experience is a catalyst for many people, for Alfred Surenyan it was the impetus to create The Andromeda Electric Orchestra.

A near death experience is a catalyst for many people, for Alfred Surenyan it was the impetus to create The Andromeda Electric Orchestra. The orchestra is composed of all electric and amplified instruments found in a traditional orchestra with a leaning towards contemporary orchestral arrangements of music from film and television, classic composers and original compositions.

Hospitalized in August 2019 with severe lung issues, it was a terrifying time for Alfred and his family. As he recovered he realized that there was no reason to delay his dream of creating an orchestra. With the support of his sister Tatyana Surenyan-Krech, he started fundraising and contacting musicians he knew. Then the pandemic hit and there were no venues to produce a show. He collaborated with Jennifer Walton of LACurbside Entertainment and they did their first driveway performance on July 18th, 2020 in his sister’s driveway in Chatsworth. If they could not not have audiences come to them, they took the concert to the audience.

Alfred is a graduate of CSUN, with a Masters of Music in Composition, with a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Claremont Graduate University. His degree is in composition with a strong emphasis in ethnomusicology, music technology and audio recording. He is a music and recording professor.

During the shutdown, The Andromeda Electric Orchestra/Curbside Entertainment produced a total of 5 driveway concerts and grew from 8 musicians to 25 and drew audiences from across the San Fernando Valley.

Edited to add:
The Madrid Theatre concert has been postponed.

Alfred is excited to produce The Andromeda Electric Orchestra’s first venue performance at The Madrid Theater in Canoga Park on August 21, 2021. This inaugural venue performance is also a fundraiser to support the expansion and upcoming plans for the orchestra. Limited tickets/seating due to covid restrictions.
