Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation Opens New HQ in Chatsworth
New facility offers cancer support and educational programs.
Chatsworth Patch reader Matthew Diamond writes about the recent festival at the Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation, 9410 Owensmouth Ave., which bears his family name:
The festival was an indoor/outdoor event located at the large new 30,000 square foot headquarters in Chatsworth. It was an open house to the general public in the surrounding communities, making them aware of their new facility and the many cancer support programs, activities and educational programs that are offered at the facility and freely available to the public, including a Latino outreach program which provides counseling.
The new headquarters also features a new cutting-edge Cancer Information Library, which was formally opened during the event. There are now eight of these libraries located throughout California. These libraries are the most comprehensive cancer information resources available to the public. Although these libraries are regularly used by medical professionals, they are specially designed for people with no medical background. A specially-trained librarian is available to help.
Both State Senator Alex Padilla and State Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield spoke about the new facility's importance to the community, in light of the fact that over 50,000 people with cancer live in the San Fernando Valley alone.
The festival was hosted by Lee Marshall and showcased great live music and entertainment, featuring performances by Sharky & The Babes, The Enzymes, Wildwood, and Magic Castle magician Steve Silverman.
Jennifer Diamond's uncle, singer songwriter Neil Diamond, is a strong public supporter of the work being done at the foundation. Olympic ice skating champion Scott Hamilton sits on our Board of Directors.
According to foundation President Harvey Diamond, “Our goal is to educate the general public as well as people with cancer and their families with the type of information that will empower them to make more informed decisions about their healthcare and to become their own advocate throughout their battle with cancer.”
