Letter: Are You Prepared to Help in a Disaster? Take a Free CERT Class
Once again the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council offers training to residents.
Editor,
The Chatsworth Neighborhood Council (CNC) is encouraging everyone to learn how to help themselves, their loved ones, neighbors or coworkers in the event of a disaster by taking Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.
The 17 1/2-hour CERT training is taught by instructors from Los Angeles City Fire Department and is provided free of charge. The course introduces participants to earthquake preparedness, fire suppression, first aid, triage and basic search and rescue techniques in a series of modules that include hands-on practice of the skills being taught.
Once again, the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council is sponsoring CERT training to be conducted on six Monday evenings: May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, June 6, and June 13 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The will be no class on Memorial Day. Participants can make arrangements to attend make-up classes at another location if they miss any in Chatsworth. CNC hopes that as many people as possible will take advantage of this valuable free training. All sessions will be held at the Chatsworth Foursquare Church, 10210 Canoga Ave. in Chatsworth.
To register for the CNC-sponsored CERT course, call 818-464-3511 or e-mail: cert@chatsworthcouncil.org and leave your name, a phone number and email address. Space will be allocated on a first-registered-first-served basis. If you would like more information about the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council go to chatsworthcouncil.org or call 818-464-3511.
