Man, 59, Killed In Northridge Hit-And-Run; Driver At Large

A 59-year-old Northridge man was killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday who fled the scene on foot, police said.

NORTHRIDGE, CA — A person in a vehicle in Northridge was fatally struck by a hit-and run motorist who fled the scene on foot, authorities said Sunday.

The victim was identified as 59-year-old Raul Gutierrez of Northridge, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

A vehicle was going westbound on Roscoe Boulevard about 8:50 a.m. Saturday when it struck another vehicle at Vanalden Avenue, said Officer Rosario Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorist in the westbound vehicle fled the scene on foot, Cervantes said.

Paramedics dispatched to the scene at 8:49 a.m. transported no one to any area hospitals, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police had no description of the hit-and-run motorist or the person's vehicle.
