Scouts, Volunteers Clean Up Stoney Point Park

For seven years, local Boy Scouts have set aside a day in October to "Do Their Duty" at Chatsworth's Stoney Point Park. Or as they call it, a day in "Rocktober."

Saturday, they returned to lead a group of more than 150 volunteers and their families in the . Directed by Scoutmaster Les Salay, they filled bag after bag with debris and refuse, returning the rural park to its natural state.

The Chatsworth Neighborhood Council provided the hungry volunteers with coffee, hot chocolate, and hot dogs. REI Sporting Goods donated energy bars, prizes and “Get Dirty" T-shirts. The mayor's office supplied bottled water and ice. Councilman Mitch Englander, along with L.A. Works, provided rakes, shovels, gloves and trash bags.
