Sierra Canyon Athletes Advance to CIF Finals

Preliminaries were held in Carpenteria.

Carpinteria High School was the host site for the CIF-SS Division IV Prelims. More than forty four schools from the Southern Section were entered into the Prelims.

The top nine finishers in each event qualified to the Division IV Championships.
Five Sierra Canyon Girls qualified into the Prelims from the Delphic League Finals.

The 4x100 Meter Relay team of Brianna LaCroix ‘14, Jasmine Dodd ‘14, Riana Nicolaysen ‘13 and Zoe Goss ‘14 ran to a new Personal Record ("PR") of 53:06 seconds.

Raina Sprock ’14, ran well in both the 1600 Meter Run and the 800 Meter Run with times of 5:31.17 (5 minutes and 31.17 seconds) and 2:31.44 respectively. Jasmine competed in the Long Jump and leaped to 14’- 07”. Zoe ran the 100 Meter Dash in 12.65 seconds. She also finished second overall in the Long Jump by leaping 17’- 04”, to become the first Sierra Canyon girl to advance to the Divisional Championships.

The boys got off to a great start with Xavier Menifield ’13, Danny Jordan ’12, James Zidell ‘12 and Ben Poretzky ’11 running the 4x100 Meter Relay in 43:48 seconds.

They established a new “PR” and are now the number three ranked relay team in Division IV. Brandon Baxter ’12 ran to a “PR” in the 1600 Meter Run. His clocking of 4:33.48 (4 minutes and 33.48 seconds) was 11 seconds faster than his previous best. Brandon also ran the 800 Meter Run in another season “PR” with a time of 2:04.19.

Danny ran great in the 400 Meter Dash establishing a new “PR” of 51.89. Three Trailblazers were entered into the 100 Meter Dash races. Xavier, Ben and James ran 11.19, 11.31 and 11.70 seconds respectively.

Xavier and Ben teamed in the 200 Meter Dash. Xavier clocked 23.19 seconds and Ben followed in 23.45. The 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Brandon, James, Ben and Danny ran to a time of 3:43.13. In the Long Jump, Xavier leaped to 22’- 02” and Danny followed with a leap of 20’- 00.75”. Jonathan Fazio ’13, continued to improve in the Triple Jump competition with a new “PR” of 39’- 05.25”. Remy Linares ’13, threw the Shop Put 39’- 02.50” and tossed the Discus 107’- 02”.

Qualifying into the CIF-SS Divisional Championships are Zoe Goss in the Girls Long Jump, Xavier Menifield in the Boys 100 Meters, 4x100 Relay and the Long Jump, Danny Jordan and James Zidell in the 4x100 Relay, and Ben Poretzky in the 100 Meters and 4x100 Relay.

Divisional Championships will be at Cerritos College, Saturday, May 21.
