SigAlert: Fatal Motorcycle Crash Shuts Down 101 Freeway

The crash brought rush hour traffic to a crawl in the Woodland Hills area Tuesday, and police investigated into the evening.

WOODLAND HILLS, CA — A fatal motorcycle crash has shut down most lanes of the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway near Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Woodland Hills during rush hour Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Passersby reported a female biker lying in the roadway following the crash.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the crash shortly after 5 p.m., and several lanes remained closed two hours later. As of 7 p.m., authorities continued to investigate the crash, and all but one southbound lane of the freeway remained closed.

Traffic remained backed up for miles and was moving at about 3 mph as of 7 p.m.

Firefighters responded to the scene of the crash near the De Soto Avenue off-ramp and found a motorcyclist unresponsive on the ground, according to Los Angeles Fire Department's Nicholas Prange.

Paramedics pronounced the victim, a woman in her 30s, dead at the scene.
