The 25-year-old said the extent of her injury is not quite clear, as she is waiting on an MRI scheduled for Friday. NBC News reported that the injury could mean a miss from the Games.

“I should have a better idea of what's going on tomorrow,” Kim said, while tearing up. “Positive thing is I have range. I am not in that much pain.”

Kim said she was feeling “really good about where my snowboarding is at right now.”

“The minute I get cleared, and I'm good to go, I should be fine,” she said. “I'm just hoping that that doesn't take too long.”

Kim, who was born in Long Beach and raised in Torrance, is considered “one of the greatest female snowboarders of all time,” according to NBC and the Olympics.

“The U.S. athlete burst into the public consciousness aged just 14 at the 2015 X Games, when she became the youngest-ever title winner, taking the superpipe ahead of Kelly Clark,” Olympic officials said.

Kim went on to win two gold Olympic medals for the women's halfpipe at both the 2018 PyeongChang and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

At the next month’s Winter Olympics in Italy, “(Kim) is trying to become the first action-sports athlete to win three straight gold medals,” the Associated Press reported.
