Women Veterans Honored at Yearly Luncheon

Julie Stranges, of Chatsworth, has organized the event for six years.

Chatsworth's Julie Stranges has made it her mission for the past six years to honor America's women veterans.

Saturday, more than 200 of them, plus active and reserve service women,  gathered at the Veterans Administration hospital in North Hills for her annual luncheon. The Chatsworth Neighborhood Council was among the sponsors of the event.

, a member of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II, was the guest speaker. She told tales of the 10 years she played ball in the league which was formed to keep the sport going while most major league players were in the Armed Forces. Her story was also told in the film, A League of Their Own.
