The Novato Cobras, an under-19 girls soccer team from the Novato Youth Soccer Association, finished the Marin Interleague Soccer Association season undefeated with a championship win over Mill Valley by a score of 3-2 on penalty kicks.
After falling behind 2-1 with only 10 minutes left in the game, the Cobras had to reach deep to find the strength of character required for a comeback, and did they find it. After a perfectly kicked corner, the Cobras scored with a magnificent header to tie the game 2-2, and then closed the deal on penalty kicks.
This is the second year in a row that the Cobras, led by Coaches Marc Bitbol and Jonathan Aaronson, won the interleague tournament in the U19 division. MISA is an association of eight of the largest soccer leagues in Marin County, and it offers older recreation teams (U14 and up) a chance to compete with each other at a higher level than just within their own leagues. Win the MISA championship is akin to being recognized as the best recreational soccer team in the county in that age group.
