On Nov. 11, 2011, (11-11-11), a number dear to the hearts of the Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the will host an event to honor the two Marin soldiers killed in Iraq while serving their country.
The families of Jake Velloza of Inverness and Nicholas Olson of Novato will receive the B.P.O. Elks Medal of Valor, acknowledging the ultimate sacrifice of these two young men and their families have made.
The very special presentation of these medals will be made by Past Grand Exalted Ruler, a past National President of the Elks, Louis “Jim” Grillo. The ceremony will also involve some of the folks who were incidental in the creation and installation of the memorial at the Marin Civic Center, “Dedicated to Those Veterans Who Served in the Iraq Afghanistan Conflict, Fallen Hero’s from Marin.”

As Elks, a patriotic organization, this event recognizes the veterans who have served our Country and particularly Jake Velloza and Nicholas Olson. The funds raised will be donated to the local Blue Star Moms chapter to assist in facilitating the care packages sent to troops currently serving in harms way.
A very special presentation of the Colors will be made by the Marine Corps recruits under the charge of Lt. Gregory Allen (Ret.) with some very special speakers and, of course, the presentation of the Medals by the Elks Past Grand Exalted Ruler.

The evening starts off with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 and the medal presentations at 7.
