Fire District Goes Pink to Extinguish Breast Cancer

Don’t be surprised to see Novato firefighters sporting pink uniforms next week. From Oct. 17-23, all members will be wearing pink as a show of support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The district has partnered with the Marin Professional Firefighters Local 1775, the International Association of Firefighters and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the "Passionately Pink for the Cure" campaign to raise breast cancer awareness. This is the first year Novato will participate in the campaign.

With the unified support of the district's board of directors and members, Chief Marc Revere changed the uniforms for the week "to give an image of hope and encouragement to those who are battling breast cancer.” Earlier this month,  the fire board adopted a resolution of support and encouragement by designating October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Breast cancer has touched the lives of our fire family and many in our community," board President LJ Silverman said. "It’s important for us to recognize our community members who are fighting this, and to let them know we are here to encourage and support you.”

Breast cancer survivor and district administrative assistant Betty Box said, “I am fortunate for my everyday heroes, who were there for me and continue to be there to this day helping in so many small, but important ways.”
