Get Ready To Swing, Concord: New Playground Coming To Community Park

Concord Community Park is getting a new playground with city council approval Tuesday.

CONCORD, CA — Concord Community Park is getting a new playground.

The Concord City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a contract to install new playground equipment at the park on Cowell Road. City staff said the playground there was more than 10 years old and had reached the end of its usable life because of frequent use by parkgoers.

"Keeping this playground usable has become maintenance intensive because of this use and parts are beginning to fail with higher frequency," city staff said in a report to the council about the new contract.

The City Council approved the contract of about $190,000 for the company PlayCore Wisconsin Inc. to install the playground equipment after the council last month approved the purchase of the equipment itself. The new playground is set to be installed by the end of March 2026.

City Councilmember Pablo Benavente, who represents District 4 that includes the park, called the new playground "a real win for families" in the area.

"This upgrade clearly gives kids a safer, more modern and more accessible place to play," Benavente said.
