'Mad Cow' Jumps Out in Front of Cop Car

The following information from Aug. 20-21 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner:

10:12 p.m., Aug. 20 — Five or six boys aged 12 and 13 were hiding in bushes on Angelica Court and Vivian Court and jumping out in front of cars on Vineyard Road while wearing costumes. A caller was concerned for the kids' safety. One kid wearing a cow costume jumped out in front of a police patrol vehicle that responded to the call. All the kids were involved in a sleepover and released to a parent, who assured appropriate action would be taken.

5:52 a.m. — A 70-year-old person took a fall near the corner of Diablo Avenue and Novato Boulevard and is bleeding from the nose and having difficulty breathing.

8:35 a.m. — Occupants of a homeless encampment off Rowland Way, including one woman with an aggressive dog, were told to move along.

11:18 a.m. — A man was staggering, carrying beer and "air boxing" in the 300 block of Enfrente Drive. The man was arrested on suspicion of drug possession.

12:40 p.m. — The burglary of video games and gift cards was reported at a residence in the 500 block of Cutlass Drive.

1:10 p.m. — A man with no pants and a woman wearing a trench coat were reported at the Hamilton Marketplace. The reporting party said the man was "marking his territory" as he walked in front of a restaurant. The man was arrested and booked at Marin County Jail.

4:01 p.m. — A woman said she was driving on Novato Boulevard near Grant Avenue when she was run off the road by a swerving white box-tail van with tools in the back. The van driver could not be located.

4:45 p.m. — A bike rider and driver collided near Bel Marin Keys Boulevard and Galli Drive. The driver brought the bike rider to Novato Community Hospital.

5:34 p.m. — An identity theft was reported on Elizabeth Way. A man said somebody opened three credit cards in his name and attempted to open a fourth.

8:24 p.m. — A man said he was walking on Santana Road when a red two-door car started following him toward his home and then a man got out and threatened to kill him. The man told officers he had been involved in a road rage incident earlier on Topaz Drive, and the driver of one of the vehicles was threatening him. There was no physical altercation.

9:14 p.m. — Water was reported gushing from under a driveway behind Harvest Market. A water main was broken and a water district worker shut off the flow. Traffic was controlled until the water was cleared.

9:29 p.m. — A white Nissan and a white Chevy SUV had their windows smashed and items taken behind a business in the 300 block of Ignacio Boulevard.

10:19 p.m. — A burglary was reported in the 300 block of Ignacio Boulevard. No other details mentioned.

10:20 p.m. — An employee at a Hamilton Marketplace business said she found a purse that was left by a woman who was shoplifting and fled the store quickly. The merchandise was returned and a theft report was filed.

Aug. 21

12:04 a.m. — A domestic violence report was made on Redwood Boulevard and one person was arrested and booked at Marin County Jail.

2:02 a.m. — A group of loud teens were reported at Hamilton Meadow Park School. One boy was deemed highly intoxicated, taken home, cited for being drunk in public  and released to his mother.

12:28 p.m. — Someone on Leafwood Heights Drive reported seeing a man in his 30s wearing headphones and a baseball cap dancing, walking backwards and staring at his fingers for more than 45 minutes. Officer reported the resident was "enjoying his music."

12:38 p.m. — A blue Honda Pilot was involved in a hit-and-run incident at the Hamilton Marketplace. The reporting party said there was significant damage to the front end.

12:40 p.m. — An angry man was reported to be punching things and gesturing wildly inside the post office on South Novato Boulevard. The reporting party left because she felt unsafe.

2:25 p.m. — A woman in the 100 block of Rowland Way threatened to overdose on morphine and was taken to the psychiatric unit at Marin General Hospital.

5:08 p.m. — A woman on Waterbury Lane said her daughter was home alone when some male middle-school classmates forced their way into the home and harassed and tried to kiss the girl. The mother declined to pursue assault charges.

5:14 p.m. — A self-described elderly woman on Cypress Avenue said her adult grandson is bringing people to the house that she does not want there. The woman is crying and says she has dementia. She was advised to talk to her grandson before calling police unless there is an emergency.

5:29 p.m. — The theft of a cell phone was reported in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue. One arrest was made.

6:56 p.m. — A woman reported that a 5-year-old boy poked her 4-year-old son in the eye on the playground at San Ramon School.

7:58 p.m. — A vandalism report was made at a vacant home on Nova Lane.

9:42 p.m. — Yelling and screaming was reported from a residence on Lynwood Drive. Two adults were contacted and said they were discussing politics with a friend who was on a speaker phone.

11:37 p.m. — A verbal disturbance was reported in the 100 block of Oliva Court. The six subjects were contacted and said they were just talking loudly while doing each other's nails and hair.
