Marin County Parks Offers Guided Nature Walk To Learn About The Vital Role Oaks Play

Explore the crucial role of oaks and their acorns in supporting life.

NOVATO, CA — Learn about how oaks and their acorns are vitally important to a broad spectrum of animals including humans with a guide from a park ranger Sunday in Novato.

A park ranger will lead a nature walk to discuss the ecological role of these trees from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in Novato. The discussion will also cover common species' traits and the difficulties in identifying hybrids.

This 1.5-mile walk features a 250-foot elevation change, including both a steep uphill and a steep, slippery downhill section.

To reach the meeting point, take the Atherton Avenue exit from Highway 101 in Novato and head east for 1.7 miles. Turn right onto Olive Avenue, then left onto Deer Island Lane. The gate will be on your right.

Remember to bring lunch and binoculars if you have them. No pets are allowed, except for service/companion animals.

Adverse weather or poor air quality may cause the walk to be canceled.
