Novato Boy Killed In Crash: Sheriff’s Office

The 17-year-old died Sunday from injuries suffered in the solo-vehicle crash the previous day, near Stafford Lake, authorities said.

NOVATO, CA — A Novato boy has died from injuries he suffered in a traffic collision over the weekend near Stafford Lake, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family of Zach Wilhelm cover expenses associated with his death, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

Wilhelm was among four occupants of a 2005 Honda Pilot that crashed into a tree Saturday night, all of whom were taken to a local hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He was among two vehicle occupants who were hospitalized with critical injuries, two others suffered moderate-to-minor injuries, the Sheriff’s office said.

The crash in the 3500 block of Novato Boulevard was reported at 10:35 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said. The Honda Pilot was traveling westbound when for unknown reasons it veered off the roadway and crashed into the tree.

The Sheriff Office’s Coroner’s Division is conducting the investigation into the boy’s death, which will include toxicology testing, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division,” the agency said.

“The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of this young man.”

Wilhelm was a junior San Marin High School student who played on the basketball team. He’s listed on the team’s roster as a 6-foot-4 junior forward.

The GoFundMe drive has raised over $191,400 as of Wednesday morning.
