Bicyclist Fatally Struck By SUV Near Oceanside Harbor

Paramedics airlifted the victim to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A bicyclist was fatally struck by an SUV during a nighttime ride near Oceanside Harbor, authorities said Monday.

The crash happened around 10:42 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of South Harbor Drive, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The collision left the 52-year-old man with major head trauma and an open femur fracture, Oceanside police spokesperson Gina Avalos said. Paramedics airlifted the victim to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead.

"The driver of the involved SUV remained on scene and fully cooperated with the investigation," Avalos said. "At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor."

Harbor Drive was temporarily closed during the police investigation.
