Give Blood In Oceanside, Get Free Krispy Kreme + Enter To Win Super Bowl Trip

The Red Cross urgently needs blood amid the Omicron surge. Donate through Jan 31 and get a Free dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts and more.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The blood shortage crisis continues to worsen as the nation's blood supply levels have become dangerously low, forcing some hospitals to defer patients from major surgery, including organ transplants.

This month, Harbor-U.C.L.A. Medical Center, a public hospital in southern Los Angeles County, closed its trauma center for two hours because it ran out of blood for patients — the first time that had happened in more than 30 years. Reported the New York Times.

To encourage people to donate critically needed blood, the American Red Cross has partnered with Krispy Kreme and the NFL.

Krispy Kreme announced that anyone who donates blood this month will receive a dozen free glazed doughnuts.

With the nation facing its worst blood shortage in over a decade, Krispy Kreme wanted to find a way to show our support for those willing to roll up a sleeve and give blood during January, National Blood Donor Month. For one week, 1/24 – 1/31, anyone who donates blood or platelets will receive a free Original Glazed® dozen. It’s our way of helping the American Red Cross increase awareness of this urgent need and saying “thanks” to those who step up to help their community. Here’s how it works: Give blood any time between 1/24 – 1/31, then stop by your local Krispy Kreme for your free Original Glazed® dozen. Just show your proof of donation and date via your donor band or sticker, or flash your donor app. Click Here to learn more about the American Red Cross and to find your closest donation site.

As an extra thank-you from the Red Cross, those who come to donate will also be automatically entered to win a home theater package and a $500 e-gift card. "While some types of medical care can wait, others can't," said Dr. Pampee Young, chief medical officer of the Red Cross. "Hospitals are still seeing accident victims, cancer patients, those with blood disorders like sickle cell disease, and individuals who are seriously ill who all need blood transfusions to live even as Omicron cases surge across the country. We're doing everything we can to increase blood donations to ensure every patient can receive medical treatments without delay, but we cannot do it without more donors. We need the help of the American people."
