Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines Since 9/11

Military journalist Amy Forsythe releases new book honoring the men and women who deployed from Camp Pendleton since 9/11.

OCEANSIDE, CA —North County local and award-winning military journalist Amy Forsythe has released a new book to honor the men and women who deployed from Camp Pendleton in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

'Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines Since 9/11' is filled with more than 150 full-color photos of memorials and markers placed aboard Camp Pendleton with a detailed map showing the location of several important monuments. The book includes reflections and remembrances from those who were stationed at Camp Pendleton over the past two decades and who still have strong ties to the base.

"I love living in North County and wanted to ensure people know that Camp Pendleton and the surrounding communities are a special place and that the heroes who died in combat will never be forgotten." said author and former U.S. Marine Combat Correspondent, Amy Forsythe.

"Heroes Live Here started as a passion project to showcase the memorials and markers on Camp Pendleton and it turned into a collaborative work of art that honors our fallen heroes of the post-9/11 generation. I was first stationed at Camp Pendleton in 1995 as an enlisted Marine combat photographer and have returned to tell the story of the heroes that were killed in combat so we can remember their sacrifices."

Amy is an award-winning journalist and began her career as an enlisted combat correspondent in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1993 and continues to serve as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Her career has included five combat deployments and several other overseas assignments. Her imagery taken while covering military operations around the world has been featured in numerous international and national media outlets through the years and continues to be used for historical purposes.

Lt. Gen. Lawrence Nicholson, former commander of 1st Marine Division wrote the foreword for the book, which reads in part: “Amy Forsythe is not only the author of this great book, ‘Heroes Live Here’ she is also a Marine combat veteran whom I served with in Fallujah, Iraq, at the height of that war. Her insights and narratives are personal, sometimes painful but always real. Amy has that firsthand experience one can only acquire from time spent in a combat zone. The good days and the bad, the lost comrades and painful memorial services, the heart wrenching and heartwarming. Her brilliant research and ability to provide that first person account of not only the conflict, but the enduring support our Marines and their families received from the local communities that steadfastly supported them through two decades of deployments, is perhaps unique in our nation.”

'Heroes Live Here' will be released on Amazon and Barnes & Noble Feb. 15, 2022. Pre-order is available for a limited time - signed hardcover editions are available now at: https://bit.ly/3rlKiDF.

A portion of the proceeds from this book will go to the Semper Fi and America's Fund.
