'Credible Threat' Prompts Closure Of Mater Dei High School

SANTA ANA, CA — Mater Dei High School announced it was closing campus through Friday after campus officials received a "credible threat."

Mater Dei President Michael Brennan and Principal Frances Clare announced the closure in a joint note sent to parents Tuesday.

"We learned of a credible threat to the Mater Dei campus and contacted the Santa Ana Police Department, the note said.

The nature of the threat against the school was not disclosed.

The school officials said they implemented "safety and sweep protocols" after learning about the threat.

"We are committed to providing timely updates and appreciate the parents' and students' understanding as we work diligently to ensure the safety of our community at all times," Brennan and Clare said.

Mater Dei will transition to online learning for the last weeks of the academic term as the Santa Ana Police Department investigates the threat, Brennan and Clare said.
