CSU Student, Soccer Player Killed In Box Truck Crash With E-Scooter

Another soccer player was critically injured in the crash, according to family members.

FULLERTON, CA — A Cal State Fullerton women's soccer player was killed by her injuries sustained in a September e-scooter crash involving a box truck, family members announced.

"Early this morning, our sweet Lauren fell asleep in the Lord. Our hearts are broken, and our family is forever changed. We will miss her beyond measure, yet we take great comfort in knowing she is now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," the family's post on a GoFundMe page dedicated to Lauren Turner read.

Turner and teammate Ashlyn Gwynn, both sophomores at CSUF, were riding e-scooted to a men's soccer game on Sept. 27 when they were hit by a box truck at around 7 p.m., according to previous reported.

Both young women were found with "significant life-threatening" injuries and were hospitalized.

Turner spent roughly a half-year in the ICU before her family announced her passing.

"Lauren was the funniest, most charismatic, loving teammate you could ever ask for. She was the first to celebrate other people’s wins," a statement issued by her teammates read. "She is the true definition of an amazing person. She always carried herself with compassion, kindness, and happiness. The impact she made on this program is immeasurable. She will be dearly missed by everyone but forever remembered by her Titan family. We love you Lauren, our #5 forever."

Turner played in 10 games for the 2025 season and made eight starts in multiple positions, according to the Cal State Fullerton's Athletics Department.

She played a big part in the Titans historic unbeaten start to the 2025 season, according to the department.
