📰 Here are the top stories in Orange County today:
- Tuesday’s Santa Ana city council meeting was contentious. Two children asked Mayor Valerie Amezcua for an apology, which she reportedly didn’t give. They and others asked for a city-funded youth center or a digital library “instead of a police athletic program at an old fire station.” Neighbors pointed fingers at the spending disparity between youth spaces and police, which is noteworthy because a quarter of the city’s residents are under 18 years of age. (Voice of OC)
- The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District put an El Dorado High School teacher on administrative leave. She was recorded delivering a rather explicit sex ed lesson to students. While the school district declined to identify the educator, it did go on record saying that “district employees are trusted to exercise professional judgment” against the backdrop of defined expectations. (Fox)
- In other education news, Los Alamitos High School celebrated a graduation ceremony where 100 percent of seniors received their diplomas. On Tuesday, all 733 students walked across the stage at the Santa Ana Bowl. Los Alamitos Unified Superintendent Andrew Pulver credited the “dedication of our students, the unwavering support of their families, and the exceptional commitment of our educators and staff.” (Patch)
- The Michelin Guide discovered ten more Southern California restaurants that you don’t want to miss. In the OC, there are Kaori Sushi in Fullerton, which impressed with gyu tongue, Poppy & Seed in Anheim (check out the grits), and Taira Sushi & Sake in Garden Grove (tender firefly squid). (The Mercury News/paywall)
- The second annual Gospel Voices of OC concert will take place on Saturday at the Musco Center for The Arts in Orange. Headed by Debora Wondercheck, it focuses on a “multi-generational artistic celebration of gospel music presented from 1865 to the present day.” Wondercheck is a champion for performing “classical music written by Black Americans long gone, but never forgotten.” This event appeals to all age groups! (L.A. Sentinel)
